This applied-developmental research utilizes a mixed-methods (qualitative-quantitative) approach to identify and analyze the components of the U.S. cognitive warfare strategy aimed at discrediting the Islamic Republic of Iran. Components were first identified through document analysis and semi-structured interviews with experts, then assessed quantitatively using a researcher-made questionnaire on a 100-person sample (selected via judgmental and snowball sampling). The data was analyzed using the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) model and the Friedman test.
Findings & Conclusion:
The study revealed eight main components of this cognitive warfare, including sanctions, undermining financial structures, and promoting a destabilizing role. The IPA model highlighted a significant gap (High Importance, Low Performance – Quadrant I) in two critical areas: Intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime to condemn Iran and the Instrumental use of international laws (like the NPT).
The threats are cognitive and psychological in nature, constituting a hybrid warfare approach. To counter this effectively, the study concludes that immediate action is necessary to address these high-risk IPA components. This involves strengthening active diplomacy and media transparency regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and enhancing cognitive resilience both domestically and internationally
