This study examines the geopolitical confrontation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America in the West Asian region. To analyze the issue, it draws on classical geopolitical theories such as those of Mackinder, Mahan, and Brzezinski, as well as the strategic doctrines of various U.S. presidents. The research employs a qualitative methodology with an analytical-explanatory approach. Data have been collected and interpreted through the analysis of primary and secondary sources.
The findings indicate that U.S. policies toward Iran are largely shaped by interpretations of geopolitical theories that consider West Asia a strategic pivot for maintaining global hegemony. In response, the Islamic Republic of Iran has pursued counterstrategies such as active deterrence, resistance diplomacy, resilient economy, and the use of soft power.
The study concludes that the Iran–U.S. confrontation is not merely a political dispute but a deeper civilizational and structural clash with significant implications for both regional and global order. Finally, the strategic recommendations emphasize the need to strengthen smart deterrence, expand regional and international cooperation—particularly with an Eastern orientation—and modernize Iran's media diplomacy.
